After years of waking up in the middle of the night and writing down answers on a notepad to the questions I asked parents, or mustering the energy to get out of bed and locating my Ipad, so I could write things down, I came up with the perfect solution. More paper, but better paper.
The labor sheet takes a different bend than most labor flow charts. It has a checklist system of phone calls. You know what I mean if you have been called numerous times for births. Talking to clients on the phone a few times during the early labor process is not out of the ordinary. At some point, the midwife makes the journey to see the client.
The paper chart also has other advantages. When time is of the essence, such as charting the time of birth, slow loading times and unfamiliar interfaces may waste precious minutes. There is also something concise about paper. It's easy to review the notes.
